A new camera will spy on sea creatures at the bottom of the Monterey Bay south of San Francisco starting Wednesday, if all goes as planned on the boat trip to install the Eye-in-the-Sea.
Wired bet365体育赛事 will accompany the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute researchers on the installation expedition, which will link the new camera to the Monterey Accelerated Research System, a high-speed data hookup that brings unprecedented capabilities to its users.
Using the MARS data and power uplinks, the Eye-in-the-Sea will send photos back to land 24-hours day. The MBARI researchers hope that it will catch never-before-seen bioluminescent sea creatures.
We’ve been promised Internet access out on the boat, so we’ll be bringing you Tweets and pictures (see below) live from the expedition. We’ve also been promised that the boat is likely to induce serious seasickness, so our productivity is contingent on our ability to see/type straight.
UPDATE: We’ve posted a few dozen photos via the boat’s WiFi. You can check them all out on my flickr stream. And you can see all the Tweets from the expedition by following me @alexismadrigal.
