Happy Comic Release Day! Welcome to another installment of GeekMom Comic Book Corner, where we recap our adventures in comics for the week.

Dakster Sullivan — Avengers vs. X-Men Issue #4

In issue #4, we see something unexpected … Hope turning to Wolverine for help. Let’s recap a minute: In issue #2, we see Wolverine attempt to make shish kabob out of the poor girl. Now she’s setting beer traps in the frozen wilderness for his help? Fortunately for Hope, Wolverine falls for it and agrees to hear her out.

The plan she laid out seems logical. Hope believes she deserves a chance to find out if she can handle the power and help with the rebirth of the mutant race. Wolverine’s school is all about helping mutants learn to use their powers and make a better world. The safety in her plan is admitting that if she can’t control the power, Wolverine is the only one she trusts to stop her. It makes perfect sense for Hope to need Wolverine’s help.

Wolverine reluctantly begins to believe her plan might actually work and agrees to help her out. Of course, come the last few pages, we learn he was just waiting for the right moment to strike. Thankfully, he used com-link with the Avengers instead of his claws. Not long after the Avengers and the X-Men arrive, Thor crashes the party and we see the Phoenix finally arrive.

I’ve heard there are some really interesting things planned for the remaining issues. One thing I do not like is the three week time gap between this issue and the next.

Nicole Boose – My Week In Comics 5/22/2012

I’m a freelancer in the comics industry and mom to a 3 ½-year-old. Here’s how my week went:

I worked out logistical details with Marvel and my creative teams about rescheduling two comic series that I edit, The Secret Service and Supercrooks, whose upcoming issues are being moved to later release dates.

In other exciting paperwork adventures, I’m laying the groundwork for another new comic series, Nemesis 2, coming out this September. To bring myself up to speed I read the original series, Nemesis, which was so bloody I had to take a shower afterward. I also nailed down the excellent Clayton Cowles to handle the lettering, and wrote up a short blurb to appear in Marvel’s catalog of comics coming out in September.

On Friday morning I awoke to an e-mail from writer Mark Millar, asking me and Hit-Girl editor Jenny Lee to put together a PowerPoint document with artwork from the books we’re working on. He needed it for a presentation he was delivering the next day at the Kapow! Comic Convention in London, but the slideshow needed to be ready within a few hours. Could we do it?

Sure we could! After my resounding promise to deliver, I reflected on the fact that my knowledge of PowerPoint is almost nonexistent, and Jenny didn’t have the program installed on her computer. Nonetheless, we managed to throw something basic together and get it to the organizers on time.

Thanks to what I’m sure was Mark’s charming delivery, the presentation was a big hit and the audience enjoyed the final slide, which read “This is where Mark tells the audience that editors Jenny Lee and Nicole Boose are awesome.”
