Calling QuizBoard a "quiz app" doesn't do justice to what this is. In fact, it is such a simple concept, you wonder why nobody has thought of this before.
QuizBoard is to Trivial Pursuit what Words with Friends is to Scrabble and Draw Something is to Pictionary.
That said, for me it has more staying power and interest than Draw Something because of some very nice game design aspects. The game board is a checkerboard where you start in one locations and need to reach another locations. You do this collaboratively, and players are working together to reach the end. The twist is that the person with the most points at the end of the game wins, so after a while the player with more points will be trying to make it to the final star, while the other player is trying to head in the other direction and collect more points so they are ahead at the end. This game dynamic really pits players nicely against each other and the tension of collaboration versus competition helps keep the possibility of victory always open.
The way you gather "moves" is by answering quiz questions. Each round you are asked five questions, and each successful answer gives you points and one move. The questions seem diverse enough to make it interesting, some easy, others more challenging and the odd really difficult question thrown in. If indeed the game does take off like others in its category they'll need to have a solid bank of questions to keep up with addicted players.
There is a free version and a paid version at $2.99 —my view is that it is always work a few dollars to skip the ads.
This will be a great app for those who are not wordy and haven't got into Words with Friends, but are great at their general knowledge.
