October 10 marks not only the premiere of the new series Arrow on The CW, but was also recently announced as "Arrow Day" at comic book stores across the country. Visit your favorite comic book retailer on Wednesday for a free comic book, Arrow #1 Special Edition, which introduces the Oliver Queen of Arrow's universe. A free comic can also be downloaded digitally on October 10, kicking off the new weekly digital series penned by Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg.

Arrow tells the tale of Oliver Queen, who was once a carefree young billionaire until a shipwreck turns his life upside down. When he returns to his home in Starling City after five years of being lost at sea, he takes the law into his own hands as the bow-toting vigilante Arrow.

I have been anticipating the premiere of Arrow all summer long. The series promises a version of DC Comics' Green Arrow in the same vein as Smallville, including new incarnations of comic characters Black Canary and Huntress. There are also some upcoming guest stars who already have me ready to tune in; John Barrowman (Torchwood) and Tahmoh Penikett (Dollhouse) have both joined the cast as guest stars with mysterious (and probably villainous) roles.

Arrow debuts October 10 on The CW.
