The sequel to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, one of the greatest science-fiction films of all time, will hit theaters one year from today, October 6, 2017. And although fans have been disappointed by many recent reboots (RoboCop, Total Recall) and attempts by Scott to revisit his earlier work (Prometheus), the fact that Sicario director Denis Villeneuve is taking the helm of the sequel has given them (read: us) hope. And now, Warner Bros. has given them the movie's title: Blade Runner 2049—a name that also reveals just how far in the future the sequel is set. The studio dropped the first photo from the set of Villeneuve's movie along with the title on Twitter earlier today. The photo shows the director standing next to Scott, returning star Harrison Ford, and new cast member Ryan Gosling—the latter two dressed in contemporary attire, suggesting they haven’t even been to wardrobe yet. Anyway, there are 365 days until a new Blade Runner movie, which we now know will be set 30 years after the original. Happy waiting!
