Disney+ is the streaming service that's home to our favourite Pixar movies, Disney's huge collection of family-friendly movies and TV shows, all the best Marvel movies and every Star Wars movie. Oh, did we mention almost every Simpsons episode ever made? That, too.
Disney+ has also just received its first price increase and, with the current absence of a free trial, you can kick off your subscription by signing up to pay £7.99 a month, or £79.90 for the year – up from £5.99 a month and £59.99 for a year respectively in its first year. Here's a quick guide to everything you need to know about the service, including how to get it on your TV.
How much does Disney+ cost in the UK?
The standard UK price of £7.99 per month makes it about as cheap as its rivals. Netflix's cheapest plan starts at £5.99 per month, BritBox is £5.99 and Now TV's entertainment pass is £9.99, while Amazon Prime, which includes free deliveries on purchased products, is £7.99 per month.
But, in some ways, you get more for your money with Disney+ compared to Netflix. For example, Disney's standard rate includes films and TV shows in 4K and high dynamic range (HDR), whereas Netflix's £5.99 plan doesn't include any 4K or HDR video. This means that, say, the Star Wars sequels are available in the highest quality possible for no additional cost.
What films and shows are on Disney+?
New films include Pixar’s existential animation Soul, the live-action Mulan remake and Timmy Failure: Mistakes were made, a 11-year-old detective caper. Television shows include Star Wars spin-offs The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian, and the colon-tastic High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Marvel’s TV offering has now also kicked off, with WandaVision finally giving fans their MCU fix.
This being Disney the main draw is its library of films from Marvel, Pixar and its own classics, but arguably the biggest attractions are 29 seasons of the The Simpsons and every Star Wars movie ever made.

What shows are coming to Disney+ in 2021?
In keeping with the Disney way, a great deal of the platform’s output is geared towards children and young adults. The most interesting confirmed show in 2021 is the next Marvel Cinematic Universe show, following on from WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Wanda Maximoff show has already wowed fans with its off the beaten path take on superheroes and this new series is set to catch up with Falcon and Bucky following the events of Endgame. Sticking with Marvel, Loki is due in May and The Mandalorian spin-off, The Book of Boba Fett is also expected to drop in December 2021.
As for Disney movies, the next title to look out for is fantasy film Raya and the Last Dragon which will be available to buy from March 5 via Disney+ Premier Access.
That stuff is all great for kids and fantasy superfans but Disney+ has finally got a shot in the arm when it comes to more adult content. The new Star tab brings a range of popular shows and movies from the past to the service as well as some new stuff too.
What shows and movies are on Star?
Star is now available on Disney+ – turning the Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars-centric service into much more of a binge-worthy Netflix rival. Star has launched with over 75 TV series – including classic TV hits like Grey’s Anatomy, The X-Files, Atlanta, Scandal, Lost and a bunch more.
It’s not just about TV either, with Disney’s Fox acquisition enabling a ton of movies to come to Star on Disney+. The likes of Die Hard, the Planet of the Apes trilogy, Deadpool 2, Independence Day and a whole host of other popular movies are now available on the service.
Star is also home to some originals, for those TV and movie obsessives that may have already devoured classics of the past. There’s Big Sky, from Big Little Lies and The Undoing creator David E. Kelley, a crime thriller centred on a group of pilots as well as Love, Victor, a spin-off of the popular Nick Robinson-starring Love, Simon.
When will Falcon and The Winter Soldier come to Disney+ UK?
Falcon and The Winter Soldier was originally intended to be the first Marvel TV show to hit our screens following Endgame, but some reshuffling saw it moved back to 2021. The show is now set to launch on March 19th, just two weeks after the conclusion of WandaVision – keeping MCU fans on their toes. Like The Vision and Wanda’s series, Falcon and Bucky’s showcase will be released every Friday across six weeks.
The show looks set to explore Falcon’s place in the world, now wielding Captain America’s famous shield and the responsibility it brings. It doesn’t look like it’ll be an easy ride for Falcon, even with the former Winter Soldier’s help, with Zemo set to return and a Cap pretender shaking things up too.
When will The Book of Boda Fett air on Disney+?
For a long while The Mandalorian was the number one reason to have Disney+, being the first cinematic smash to hit the service. However, Disney recently brought the Star Wars hype to a whole new level by announcing a new range of shows set in a galaxy far, far away – including The Mandalorian spin-off The Book of Boba Fett.
The Book of Boba Fett is set to arrive in December 2021 and will follow the mythologised bounty hunter, played by Temuera Morrison, as well as Fennec Shand, played by Ming Na-Wen. Not a whole lot has been revealed about this show just set, beyond being set “within the timeline of The Mandalorian”.

Disney+ is available through its premium Sky Q service and as an app via Now TV. The deal, which has been described as lasting for multiple years, is believed to have been made in favour of other deals with UK TV providers BT and Virgin Media.
