Here's how to watch Donald Trump's inauguration in the UK

Later today, Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States. His inauguration has been the subject of much furore and there are protests, both on and offline, set to take place throughout the day.

As determined by the US constitution, any newly elected US President is sworn into office by the Chief Justice of the United States every four years at midday (5pm GMT) on January 20. Donald Trump will take an oath on the steps in front of the US Capitol before a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue. Inaugural parties and celebrations will follow.

Inauguration schedule and times

Donald Trump and his wife Melania will meet with outgoing President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama before heading to the Capitol at 9.30am (2.30pm GMT).

At 11.30am (4.30pm GMT) the Supreme Court Justice will swear in Trump's Vice President Michael Pence.

President-elect Trump will recite the oath of office to Chief Justice John Roberts and give his inaugural address from midday (5pm GMT).

The parade will run from 3pm to 5pm (8pm to 10pm GMT) during which time Trump and Pence will travel the 1.5 miles (2.4km) down Pennsylvania Avenue.

The inaugural balls start at 7pm (midnight GMT).

How to watch

BBC and ITV will begin coverage from 4pm GMT and 6pm GMT respectively. Both channels will broadcast until 7pm GMT. There will also be extended coverage on the BBC News Channel from 3pm until 7pm.
