The sheer adaptability of the Nintendo Switch means that there’s a ton of ways to upgrade it with extra accessories – from nifty controllers and battery packs to headsets built for portability and storage options so you can pack your console with all your favourite games. Given the mammoth success of the Switch, there’s a lot of options out there. We’ve picked out the genuinely good Nintendo Switch accessories to consider. Many of these gadgets will remain a worthy purchase for many months to come, with most of them offering compatibility with the newly announced Switch (OLED Model) – available to pre-order now.
EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid
The Nintendo Switch is great for using on the go but it isn’t well equipped for audio – saddling you with using wired headphoness, a clunky wireless solution or, simply, no sound at all. The EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid (£137) is the best attempt to tackle this yet. Unfortunately, you can’t escape the use of a dongle but it’s a rather diddy USB-C affair – causing as little hassle as possible. These are a first-of-its-kind set of wireless gaming earbuds too, bringing all the convenience of this form-factor to video games consoles. The GTW 270 Hybrid will work with PS5, PC and smartphoness too – making these an option for all your gaming sessions.

SanDisk MicroSD for Nintendo 128GB
A microSD card is an absolutely essential purchase for the Nintendo Switch – especially if you’d prefer to pack your console with digital games to avoid taking a set of game cards with you everywhere. The SanDisk MicroSD for Nintendo 128GB (£22) offers a solid storage boost at an extremely reasonable price. It offers pretty speedy transfer speeds too – at 100MB/s. If you fancy even more space, you can opt to spend a bit extra to get a SanDisk MicroSD for Nintendo 256GB (£50).
HyperX ChargePlay Clutch
You can buy a ton of cases, stands, charging cases and charging stands for the Nintendo Switch but not many are all-encompassing. The HyperX ChargePlay Clutch charging case (£55) is a modular charging case that lets you have it all. You can get added grip and a battery boost with the whole console slotted in or you can slide the Joy Con grips off and set the tablet on a tablet with the handy stand – all while still charging the console too. It’s a handy option that solves numerous problems – helping to keep you gaming for long sessions, provide more grip and offer a useful way to prop up the Switch.
Orzly Protective Case
While the Switch Lite (and, even, the full-size Nintendo Switch) are small enough to chuck in a relatively small bag, it isn’t the best idea if you’ve got games, cables, charging packs and more crammed in there too. The Nintendo Switch Lite - Orzly Protective Case (£10) is a cheap and cheerful option for storing all you need to enjoy your Switch Lite on your travels.

This 8Bitdo controller is about far more than good looks though, its Ultimate Software allows you to implement custom button mapping, adjust trigger and stick sensitivity, alter vibration control and, even, create macro commands. If you’ve ever wanted a bunch of customisation options for your Nintendo Switch controller experience, the SN30 Pro+ offers lots of choice.

PowerA Nano Enhanced Wireless Controller
Many Switch controller options focus on providing a more “serious” gamer alternative to the fun and adaptable Joy Cons. However, the PowerA Nano Enhanced Wireless Controller (£40) brings the playfulness of the regular Switch controllers to a gamepad. These Nano wireless controllers feature an ergonomic shell with a small footprint. Along with the handiness of up to 20 hours of charge, the big appeal here is the wide range of choice on offer when it comes to design. PowerA Joy Con Charging Station
PowerA seems to have a neverending supply of useful Nintendo Switch accessories and the PowerA Joy Con Charging Station (£15) might be one of the best. This dock is powered over USB-A and can have up to 4 Joy Cons slid onto – making sure you never find your controllers without charge when it comes time to play your favourite Nintendo titles. It’s as simple as that really, it’s a no-frills device. A clever additional feature is that it’s weighted to stop it from taking a tumble no matter how you arrange your Joy Cons in it or if you accidentally give it a little knock.
Orzly Tempered Glass Screen Protector
Whether it’s a phones, a tablet or… a Nintendo Switch, a screen protector is an essential purchase for all-pricey display-sporting devices. Thankfully, Nintendo Switch protectors are fairly cheap and serial Switch accessory maker Orzly has one of its own. Orzly Tempered Glass Screen Protector (£7) provides protections from scratches up to 9H – despite being just 0.24mm as to not impede your touch control experience or bulk up your device. Pick this up shortly after your Switch purchase and you shouldn’t have to think about it again for a long while, with Orzly providing two protectors in this case along with a 2-year limited warranty.

Anker PowerCore 20100
The Anker PowerCore 20100 (£35) offers a 20,000mAh battery for boosting your Switch’s charge out and about. It’s big enough to pack in hours of juice but small enough that it isn’t too hard to lug around in your average bag – weighing just over 350 grams. While it’s a great portable option for charging up your Nintendo Switch, it’s just useful to have around in any scenario. With two USB-A ports and one USB-C, you charge multiple devices at once whether it’s a Switch, phones or tablet. When it’s been drained, you can charge it back up in under 10 hours with a 2amp charger.
Genki Covert Dock
The ability of the Nintendo Switch to seamlessly switch (yes) between a handheld and home console is one of its big appeals. However, with a relatively cumbersome docking station, it’s not ideal if you want to dock your Switch at any locations besides your own home. That’s where the Genki Covert Dock (£65) comes in. This dock works much in the same way a Nintendo Switch dock – providing a way to show your game on a TV – but, in the shape of your average mobiles phones charger. Simply plug this into a wall, attach the Switch to it via USB-C and an HDMI from it to your TV then you’re all set. The Genki Covert Dock’s small size means you can get your Switch setup on a TV easily anywhere in your home or, even, take it over a friend’s house.

HORI Switch Game Card Case
While digital games are becoming ever more popular, plenty of people still like to own a tangible representation of their games. If that’s you then it’s a good idea to have something that lets you carry them around without having to take several different game cases with you. The HORI Switch Game Card Case (£8) has slots for 24 games and weighs just 50g – letting to slip it into a bag and forget about it until it’s time to play on your Switch. There’s room for two MicroSD cards too, for switching out your libraries of digital games if you have those too.
