What's happening, it's your boy, Offset,

and this is 'WIRED' Autocomplete Interview.

[intense hiphop music]

We really giving out our sauce and seasoning now.

[producer laughs]

They gonna get to chewing.

[intense hiphop music]

When did Offset,

[tape rips]

start rapping?

It was eighth grade.

I ain't know what I was doing,

I was trash, too, wasn't talking about nothing.

My first rap name was Young Gutter, too.

Everybody don't know that, too.

Curve.

[laughs]

Young Gutter.

Where did Offset [tape rips]

get his name from?

There used to be this artist, I ain't gonna say his name,

very inspirational to Atlanta.

And he came out with the mixtape,

and ever since then I just ran with Offset.

I feel like it matches me 'cause, you know what I'm saying,

it's like you don't wanna piss me off,

but I could be on set.

I'm just playing, I'm just playing.

When is Offset album dropping?

It will be this year.

It be this year.

It be this year. It be this year.

It's coming. It's on the way.

I can't give too many details, but it's on the way.

How [tape rips]

many tattoo does Offset have? [tape rips]

I don't even know.

I probably got, I know it's over like a hundred though.

[Producer] What's the most recent?

It'd be my brother Takeoff on my back.

That's the most recent one.

I got my whole back covered with Take.

[board thuds]

What was Offset's [tape rips]

first song?

My first song was Bando.

[Producer] When you hear that song,

you were a much different rapper

now than you were back then?

Yeah. Way different. Totally different.

I'm way better than that.

That was, that was in the beginning stages.

What is Offset's [tape rips]

most popular song?

My most popular song is Ric Flair Drip.

It got the most streams of all my songs.

Classic joint.

[Producer] Did you bet

that it might've been your most popular

as you were releasing it?

Nah, I hated the song releasing it.

I didn't like the song

and it ended up being the biggest.

It's crazy.

[Producer] What don't you like about it?

Oh, I love it now, but when I first did it,

it just was like the West Coast beat,

like the vibe was when I was recording it,

it wasn't like a serious record,

I was just like bouncing on it, playing around with it,

ended up being one of them joints though.

What was Offset's [tape rips]

favorite performance?

Well, my favorite state

was Boston

'cause I wasn't expecting Boston to be so,

they was going so crazy.

Shout out to Boston.

When I went on tour in Boston surprised me like

they was lit.

[tape rips]

What does Offset do for fun?

I record.

I buy clothes,

I get dressed, you know what I mean?

That's what I do for fun.

I get fly.

[board thuds]

Offset [tape rips] early life.

Young King from the north

and I was getting fly back then, too,

in a different style, different way.

I was always trying to figure it out early.

Probably about when I was about 10

I knew I wanted to be, have a million dollars.

I wanted to change the narrative of the family, you know?

So I shot for my dreams.

Does Offset [tape rips] have kids?

Yes, I have six beautiful kids.

[Producer] Could you describe your parenting style?

I'm the cool dad to not play with.

I lay the law,

but I do it in my own way.

I never want my kids to not trust me,

or not feel like they can holler at me.

I feel like they'll holler at me 'fore anybody else.

You gotta give 'em instruction,

but you gotta also like make 'em feel comfortable, too,

at the same time.

How [tape rips] many shoes does Offset [tape rips] have.

I done lost count now, man.

Last count I took though it was like 3,000,

probably like 3,200 now.

I collect shoes 'cause I remember when we was younger

that was a big thing to me growing up,

to me and my friends,

to have the J's, we used to share shoes.

When I got me some money,

I wanted, I got all the shoes that I couldn't get

back in the day.

[tape rips] Offset jewelry collection.

Various pieces of emerald baguettes.

We got Rolex, we got Pateks.

I love watches more than everything.

I'm getting outta the stage of wearing like,

you know, the big jewelry and like

I'd rather classic and cool,

but I want my watch to be a big dog.

So you understand when I walk in the room,

the presence is dealt with the watch.

Like today I have on

the 2024 stainless, rose face, skeleton Audemars Piguet.

Only people I done seen with it is Michael Jordan

and Serena Williams.

That's what I like in jewelry: watches.

[tape rips] Was Offset in Whitney Houston video?

Yeah, I was in Whitney Houston video.

I was a youngin, you know what I'm saying?

Doing my thing.

See I always had a bright future.

If you see me, I got a lot of cameos.

Now, looking back at it,

it was like a sign, early sign

of me letting me know like I'm gonna be that guy later on.

[board thuds]

Who is offset touring with? [tape rips]

As of right now, I don't know.

Shout out to my last I brought on tour was Skilla Baby,

Sleazy,

Mango.

As of right now, I don't know, I don't got it set up yet.

I'm focusing on making the album right now,

so then I can go and tour off the album.

It's gonna be somebody lit though.

We gonna definitely make something happen.

Who [tape rips] influenced Offset?

Michael Jackson, James Brown,

Andre 3000, coming outta Atlanta, being able to, you know,

get outside the box and get on his own type of vibe.

It's the risk takers, the greatest, the icons.

That's what I look up to and do my research on.

Who does Offset [tape rips]

want to record with?

I'm tryna to get a song with Michael Jackson.

Somehow, some way.

Even if it's just some ad-libs.

You feel what I'm saying?

Even if it's just some background, little harmonizing.

I wouldn't have it like into his vibe.

I produce a beat around his vocals.

That's a dream of mine. That'd be hard.

What is Offsets [tape rips]

recording process.

Me and my engineer,

a couple of my close friends, always a producer.

I would love for a producer to be in there to cook with me

'cause I feel like when you got a producer in there,

y'all go off each other energy.

I like to record a lot of times earlier on in the day.

I used to record real late at night.

I feel like earlier your mind be a little bit more fresher,

you might not get so repetitive off of tiredness.

[Producer] Is most of it written or not much?

Nah, I don't write nothing.

I just go off of the vibes, so I plug in

after each bar, whatever come to my mind.

I'll say it a couple times.

The one that I like that I keep and then go to the next bar.

What is Offsets [tape rips]

favorite collaboration?

Recently is Denim Tears because it dropped almost a year ago

and to this day I see it in movies.

I see it every day when I'm walking around

every day somewhere, somehow I see

the pieces that I created and it means something to me

'cause, you know, I know I did it right

and people rock with.

What is Offset's [tape rips]

fashion style?

My fashion style is like, it ain't no specific style.

I feel like I can go any which way.

Stay on a vibe for a little bit

and then I like to move on and just keep switching.

I feel like fashion

don't really have no statement or no sentence to it.

Whatever you feel like look good on you, look good on you.

[Producer] Describe your vibe now.

My vibe now is like

archive pieces.

I'm putting on nothing but pieces.

Today, I have a Vivian Westwood original.

This is the piece right here.

You gotta find this. This was, this is something.

This is, this back in the day.

It's a little old,

but it's worth a lot though.

Sorta my pants, too.

These Balenciaga leather.

I bought these probably like 2015

and I found 'em in my Atlanta house

like just sitting around.

[tape rips] What is next for Offset?

Film, music, more albums, more touring.

Super on the film side,

I been shot all my videos for my last album.

That's something that's becoming a passion for me.

'Cause I feel like getting the vision across

is the easiest way to tell a story.

[Producer] What part do you play

in the music video production?

So what I do is I direct the video

and then I hire everybody around me,

which is people that I've previously shot with before.

Like if I shoot a video with you

and then I feel like you're a great AD,

I get your personal contact,

so then we can personally work together.

And I have my own production company.

What's up, this is your boy, Offset.

That was all the boards.

You know what it is.

We come with some new drip, new moves, new music,

new visuals, everything new on the way.
